The confidentiality aspect of free online surveys

I know that for the large majority of people it makes no difference and they could not care less about whether or not the information that they give over to others is kept private and confidential but for some the confidentiality aspect of free online surveys is a big issue And considering this there is very little written about it other that the small text that appears at the bottom of many free online surveys privacy policy and disclaimers.

The one issue if face in trying to explain the confidentiality of free online surveys is that it will differ greatly from company to company, though for the large part most of what i list below will remain true.

In a sites privacy policy, they will often refer to your personal information, by this they mean any information that may identify yourself or from which your identity may be found – examples of this are:
• your name
• your contact details
• Personal Information

How your personal Information will be used
your information on most free online survey sites is stated to only be used for the purpose for which it is intended, unless stated otherwise at the time of submission of that information.

Access to your personal information
Most companies will do all they can to keep any of your information from reaching any unwanted parties but will not be held liable if it by some means does. If you at any point are suspicious of your information been given out you should contact the company in question immediately to discuss it with them.

Opting out of free online surveys
Most free online survey companies will offer opting out of their service in every email they send you, and if the user cannot opt out then the company will do what they can to help them. I have never seen this be an issue, the companies are ethical enough to let go of your information if you are wanting to.

Information that you provide during the completion of free online surveys is submitted to the companies that have paid to receive that information, in most cases again unless stated otherwise will not have your name attached to it in any way.

Also note that all companies in the terms state that will reserve the right to change any part of the privacy policy at any time without notice.

If the privacy of the information you provide companies in completing free online surveys is an issue for you then I would strongly recommend that you simply take the time to read the fine print that is listed in the sign up process and often accessible from the footer of the company’s home page.
